Welcome to Chalk Talk, the inside scoop into a secondary teacher's everyday life - my life.

In today's educational system, "secondary" education encompasses both middle and high school. This might look slightly different from district to district, or school to school, but often is as follows:

Middle school: often some combination of 6th, 7th, and 8th grade.

High school: traditionally 9th - 12th grade.

Exceptions: in some instances, a school will combine 6th - 12th grade.

When I was first inspired to become a teacher, my immediate intentions were for Chemistry and Biology in a traditional, public high school setting, which consists of grades 9-12. Little did I know that I would find myself at a 6-12, charter, high school, running the "show" (sometimes literally) for 6th and 8th graders in a newly developed, integrated, science curriculum. I am looking forward to sharing my teaching journey with you, and would love to hear from you about educational topics, questions, or anything else really... So comment below!

But without further adieu... let's Chalk Talk, shall we?
